This match was played during Sunderland's pre-season training camp in the Algarve. Duncan Watmore, subbed at half-time, returned in place of injured George Honeyman in the 74th minute. Watmore himself was then injured in the 85th minute with Carl Lawson, also subbed at half-time, returning in his place.
