This was the last of three matches that the Spanish FA used as trials to decide their squad for the 1934 World Cup in Italy. All but Blasco, Cano, Pena and Torregaray of the Spanish players that appeared in the 3 games were in the 22 man World Cup squad. Spain reached the Quarter Finals, losing to eventual winners Italy 1-0 in a replay after a 1-1 draw. So Sunderland, unbeaten against the same squad, would probably have been a match for the 1934 World Champions! The match was played at Valencia's current stadium, their home since 1923.
