Sunderland
Elswick Rangers
Sunderland's reserve keeper Potts didn't turn up for the train journey (Kirkley was out injured due to getting off a moving train at Ayr 2 weeks previous!), so Reuben Smith went in goal in the first half and Tam Halliday in the second. There is no other Smith known at SAFC at the time (including reserves), so the second Smith in the team may also be Reuben (recognising his 2nd half position) and Sunderland played with 10; or the other Smith is a stand-in playing under an alias.
