Sunderland's first ever game in the Durham Challenge Cup. Milkwell Burn was a colliery village near Chopwell, that was wholly demolished in 1970. Full goalscorers not available, but reports indicate that Jimmy Allan got the majority of Sunderland's goals. Milkwell Burn gave up the game 20 minutes before time.
