Match reports give the Sunderland No.10 as "D.Logan". However, pre-match teams have Monaghan (who had played the week before) in this position. Given that Logan never featured in any other Sunderland line-up, we believe Logan is a pseudonym and Monaghan played under it; Logan was probably a registered "name" for the FA Cup. Monaghan was at the time an Ayr player, and was one of the Sunderland players suspended for "professionalism" after playing in an FA Cup tie 2 years later… perhaps this episode was the real start of Sunderland inducing Scottish players.
