The Baseball Ground was not Derby's home at this time. The match was played here due to their then home the Racecourse Ground being used for a race meeting on the same day. At the time the ground was called the Ley's Baseball Ground, named after Sir Francis Ley who introduced baseball to the UK. Derby eventually moved permanently to the Baseball Ground in 1895.
