The game kicked off 15 minutes late as 2 Burnley players (Nicol and Chambers) had missed the train and were not due to arrive until 38 minutes after kick off time. The referee refused to delay for them so Burnley started with 9 men. The missing men did not appear until 4 minutes into the 2nd half. The late start meant the referee had to end the game 5 minutes before full time because of darkness but the League allowed the result to stand.
