The referee blew for half-time after only 32 minutes of this game; the crowd quickly let him know his error and after quickly checking with his linesman, play resumed. City's first goal was, even from the view of the City directors, one of the biggest mistakes from a referee ever seen. Ridding actually caught a through ball and held it between his arms and body for several yards before dropping at Marshall's feet, the latter then striking the ball home!
